Easington soundly beaten at Esh Winning
Easington Colliery were soundly beaten 5-2 away to Esh Winning on Saturday afternoon.
Jack Pounder collected a brace for the Colliers, but Nick Marley’s hat-trick alongside goals from Glenn Donaldson and Joe Mole ensured Esh took the points.
The Colliers lined up identical to last week’s draw against Bedlington Terriers.
Despite an early chance for Easington, Esh Winning took the lead with their first chance in the fifth minute. A low ball across the face of goal found Donaldson, and he blasted into the roof of the net.
After numerous big chances for the Colliers, they deservedly pulled level in the 14th minute. A dinked ball found Liam Adamson and he teed it up for Pounder whose effort found the net via a touch off both the ‘keeper and post.
Further chances came for both sides early in the second half, before two goals in three minutes put Esh Winning firmly in control. Firstly, a glancing header from Marley from a corner just say got over the line, before the same man turned on the edge of the area and picked out the bottom corner.
Shane O’Brien glanced a header wide late in the first half for Easington, but there wasn’t to be a goal back before the break.
In the 64th minute, the hosts scored their fourth. A back pass was played to Sam Naylor, but he totally missed his attempted clearance and Esh Winning were left with a simple tap in.
Just two minutes later, it was five. The hosts beat the offside trap and a composed finish sealed the win.
The Green Army did manage a consolation in the 70th minute. Kyle Middleton and David Vincent linked up with the latter teeing up Pounder who finished well.
Despite some late attacks, the Colliers couldn’t muster anything and Esh Winning took the points.
In truth, it could have finished about 10-4.
