Horden CW vs Brandon United

Maras back to winning way with Brandon victory

Horden Community Welfare returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win at home to Brandon United on Wednesday night.

Goals from Ben Riding, Taylor Campbell and Jack Pounder helped the Marras to the three points on a wet evening at the Welfare Park.

Upon kick off, both sides had early corners, before the game’s first real chance arrived in the 10th minute. Horden’s David Doughty was released through on goal, but he could only blaze over.

Horden were now starting to take control, and in the 16th minute, Robbie Bird dragged a shot wide, before the woodwork came to Brandon’s rescue. A Horden shot from eight yards bounced off the post and then off a defender on the line before bouncing to safety.

Horden broke the deadlock in the 30th minute. A corner was recycled and then put back into the penalty area where Riding turned and finished.

A couple of half chances came and went for Horden before a Brandon shot was curled over the crossbar.

Riding headed just wide from a Horden free kick in stoppage time, and the Marras went into the break with a one goal lead.

Taylor Campbell dragged an early Horden shot wide in the second half, while at the other end, an offside flag denied Brandon of being through.

Nat Skidmore was next to go close for Horden, before a couple of Brandon shots failed to trouble the Marras.

In the 73rd minute, as the constant rain became heavier, Horden doubled their lead. The ball was worked into Taylor Campbell who picked out the far corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Horden’s third arrived in the 82nd minute. A corner was whipped into the penalty area and Pounder was there to head home.

It was a comfortable win for the Marras.
