Jarrow vs Easington Colliery

Colliers hit Jarrow for six

James Fairley scored a hat-trick as Easington Colliery hit Jarrow for six in a 6-0 win at the Ford Hub on Wednesday night.

Fairley’s hat-trick was complemented by goals from Callum Guy, Callum Stanton and Taylor Ford to give the Colliers all three points.

Goalkeeper James Hopkinson and striker Mark Davison came into Olly Hotchkiss’ side to make their debuts for the Colliers, while there was also a spot on the bench for returning club captain Dylan Elliott.

Upon kick-off at a blustery Ford Hub, little happened in the opening exchanges, with the first half chance not arriving until the eighth minute when Denny Tapping’s shot was saved by Thomas White.

Jarrow had a couple of shots fail to find the target, before Fairley shot wide for Easington.

Hopkinson was impressive on debut in the Easington goal, and the Colliers had him to thank in the 18th minute when he produced a fantastic save to push Ryan Hardie’s shot onto the crossbar.

Hardie then put a shot wide, before Hopkinson was forced into another good save in the 25th minute.

The Colliers had a penalty shout waved away on the half hour mark, before half chances followed for Tapping and Chris Trewick.

It was level at the break, but Jarrow had edged the first half.

However, just three and a half minutes into the second half, the Colliers took the lead. Fairley’s corner was recycled back to him, and he drifted a way into the penalty area before prodding the ball into the far bottom corner.

Five minutes later, Fairley scored his second. Davison’s overhead kick was well saved, but Fairley was there to convert the rebound.

And the hat-trick arrived in the 57th minute. Fairley burst through the middle and picked out the bottom corner from 25 yards with the ‘keeper rooted to his spot.

Halfway through the second half, Guy got in on the act. Matty Weirs burst down the right and drilled a low ball to the back post where Guy converted.

Number five arrived in the 80th minute. Magic stuff from Stanton saw him cut in to beat three players, and just before a fourth could get a challenge in, Stanton took aim and picked out the corner from the edge of the penalty area.

In the 83rd minute, there was a sixth Easington goal. Fairley curled a cross into the penalty area, and Ford steered a header into the net for his first Northern League goal.

A superb second half from the Colliers blew Jarrow away.
